This month’s Boss of September is Savannah Grace! We wanted to discuss her success as a female entrepreneur during this pandemic.

Savannah is a professionally trained baker/pastry chef. Who created her own business “Savannah Grace Bakes”. She has been baking and cooking ever since she was a little girl – knowing that one day, she would have a creative job… but this is beyond her wildest dreams. She spends all day in the kitchen, listening to Taylor Swift and baking! What could be better?

We sat down with Savannah Grace to ask her some questions about her success!

Tell us about your career journey

My career journey started off after graduating George Brown College – I worked in various restaurants, bakeries, and country clubs.  Nothing seemed to quite fit what I had envisioned myself doing forever.  So I quit and started my own business in the winter of 2019.

If you have any advice to offer your younger self what would it be?

If I had any advice for my younger self, it would be to stay focused and passionate about what you do.  When I quit my job at the country club my boss asked what I was going to do & where I was going – I told him I was going to start my own business. He pretty much laughed in my face and said that I won’t be successful.  Well, here I am!

How did you navigate staying motivated during the pandemic?

Working during the pandemic has not been too bad! I have had to pivot my business model; make smaller cakes, cater to smaller/household parties, and do a lot more deliveries.  But the pandemic also helped my business boom!  I try to stick to schedules and always make plans and keep organized in order to keep me motivated.  I try to stay creative and always try new and exciting things so I never get bored of baking!

What does your daily routine look like?

My daily routine: I wake up and turn on the ovens.  I usually bake for a couple of hours in the morning, then while my cakes are cooling, I try to squeeze in a workout.  After that, I will decorate cakes and cookies, and do some more baking in the afternoon.  I will make dinner & then do some contracts and answer emails in the evening.  My days vary depending if I have deliveries or pickups – I always have to keep a schedule to organize my days/weeks/months.

Savannah Grace mainly focuses on custom cakes for occasions like weddings, showers, and birthdays. She also make custom cookies, cupcakes, French macarons, donuts, and more.
