A new year means new Instagram trends to watch out for! There would be a lot of changes we could expect in the next 12 months, and we’re so excited about it. Today, we want to share with you the Instagram trends you need to know for 2022.
If you have a business and use Instagram as one of the social media platforms, you need to read until the end of this blog and see which trends you can use for social media marketing.
Last year we saw a lot of cool new features like Professional Dashboard and uploading photos and videos via desktop. This year, take your Instagram marketing to the next level with these trends we’re about to share.
1) The comeback of the chronological feed
We enjoyed many years of a chronological feed and eventually switched up last 2016 to the algorithmic feed. Don’t be surprised when you notice that your feed will soon be back in chronological order.
Instagram wanted to test out three types of feed which are the following:
- Home (The feed experience you currently have)
- Favorites (It’s the feed for the people you don’t want to miss updates from. This could be your family or your biz besties)
- Following (Posts from the ones you follow in chronological order)
These tests are already rolling out, so you have to keep an eye and let us know if you already got it 😉
2) Goodbye IGTV
Instagram announced the retirement of IGTV last October 2021. They are combining video formats into one section called “Instagram Video.” This new section is where your Instagram Live videos and your previous IGTV uploads are. This change introduced another video format where we can now post video content up to 60 minutes long directly on our feeds!
3) Video Domination on IG
Last year, IG announced that it is no longer a photo-sharing app. They currently prioritize showing your video format content to more audiences! You can notice when scrolling through your feed that it’s 80% in videos format. There is even a dedicated Reels button at your Home, which will show Instagram users’ Reels that may be relevant to your activity and interest determined by the algorithm.
Now is the perfect time to create video content for your biz! We know it’s not easy to show up and be confident with videos, but you can ace it with practice!
4) Replying with Reels
Since the launch of Reels, many users have found success in reaching more audiences and connecting and building communities. Thanks to IG’s strong push of Reels! Recently they announced a new way to comment on Reels: with another Reel.
The new feature will come in handy, especially when you need to answer a question from the comments section and want it to be more fun rather than responding with a long comment.
5) Link stickers for everybody
Our favorite was the release of the link stickers in stories for everybody. Although this was released last year, link stickers continue to be a trend this year, and there might be improvements on it this year! We can all remember that Instagram first introduced the swipe-up link feature but was only available for accounts with 10k or more followers. Now anyone has the links sticker feature.
The release of link stickers opens up the opportunity for smaller brands and influencers to share an external link. It is beneficial to have this feature as a business owner because your viewers can directly tap on the sticker and view your website. Pro tip: share your product link via this sticker and get more sales!
6) Longer Instagram stories
You can film videos for Stories but will upload them in 15-second chunks. However, there is news that Instagram is currently testing 60-second Stories. The longer Stories format will provide a better watching experience for those who view your stories with fewer interruptions.
Another tip: Take behind-the-scenes videos in your business and share them in your Stories. The more raw these videos are, the more your viewers will love them!
7) Instagram shopping is the new norm
If you’re a business owner and you haven’t set up your Instagram Shop, then chances are you are missing a lot! Shopping on IG is so much easier with this feature. No need to direct your customers to a website. Now, your customers can select and buy directly from the app.
Did you know that more than 130 million users tap on an Instagram Shopping post each month? Don’t be the last to have this feature enabled on your account!
8) Livestream Shopping on Instagram
Aside from Instagram Shops, Livestream shopping is another trend that will become crazy popular this year. Businesses and creators can go live and tag the products they are wearing or showing.
Before going live, add up to 30 products to a collection so you can pin one item at a time during the Livestream. Your viewers can tap to purchase any items that are featured. It is also an excellent time to talk about the featured product and give viewers an in-depth perspective on the product.
