It’s time to celebrate another boss of the month and Bowo would like to feature Vanessa Bowen this December!
Vanessa is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Master Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner (NLP) and the Founder of Mint Worthy Co. Inc., a personal finance coaching platform that helps women shift their relationship with money and take control of their finances. After a decade in corporate finance and public accounting working with international businesses in Canada and the US, Vanessa decided to pursue her passion for personal finance, shifting her focus on empowering women to live life on their own financial terms.
Vanessa equips women with new ways of managing and controlling their finances and teaches strategies to truly reach their financial goals. She helps uncover money blocks and release the deep-rooted subconscious beliefs that create our habits, decisions and behaviours around money. Vanessa coaches women on how to break through these mindset barriers to discover life-long financial freedom.
We decided to ask Vanessa some questions to get the inside scoop on her success as an entrepreneur!

Can you tell us about your career journey?
Fresh out of university, I landed my dream job at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) where I started my career as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). This is where I had my first financial reality check. I thought I had “made it” and was spending my money like I had. Within a year I found myself deep into debt. This is when my love for personal finance began.
I hired a Money Mentor who caught me how to budget, manage my money and finally save. Within a few years I was debt-free and purchased my first investment property and became overly obsessed with teaching other women how to manage their finances and live on their own financial terms. This is when the idea of my company, Mint Worthy was first born. A few years later I left my corporate job to begin Mint Worthy and now live my life helping women create their own financial freedom.
If you have any advice to offer your younger self what would it be?
You will never be fully ready, so just start. I stayed in my career for 3 more years after first having the dream for my business. I was waiting for the “right” time and instead of spending that time doing what I love, I remained in a career that I no longer had passion for. We all hold ourselves back from starting because we think we need to wait until everything aligns. That’s not how life work sometimes. Sometimes you have to take the leap and THEN everything will align.
What keeps you motivated?
Knowing that I am creating change not just for my clients but for their future generations. Most of us were not taught about money and we end up inheriting the same financial habits and money mindset of our parents. Helping my clients release the guilt, shame and confusion around money so that they can create their own money story is what keeps me motivated. Seeing them create a new story and learn how to manage and take control of their finances and achieve their financial dreams is why I keep doing what I do. When my clients call to tell me they finally purchased their dream home or paid off their debts, motivates me to continue to help the next woman and then the next.
What does your daily routine look like?
I always start my day with my morning money rituals, typically beginning with a prayer and gratitude for what I have and also don’t yet have. I then do a money meditation and end with either writing money mantras or speaking my affirmations out loud. It’s important for me to always begin my day with the right mindset and energy.
